Anxiety is something bad that you feel in your chest and tummy when your are scared of things. Anxiety and fear are almost the same thing, but they are different. When you have fear, you are also afraid of things- you get scared, nervous, and then your chest starts to pound and you might want to run away or hide because you are so scared.
When you have anxiety, your fear of things becomes bigger, or you might start to think about being afraid of something that is not there yet. So when you have anxiety, you might get nervous all the time, but with fear, you just get nervous when something is really scaring you. So with anxiety, you get more nervous and afraid when something scares you, but with fear, you get nervous but it goes away when the scary thing is gone.
Also, with anxiety, you may get nervous even if the scary thing is not around. Just thinking about the scary thing or being afraid the scary thing might show up at any time can cause you to be nervous and afraid. With fear, you just get nervous when there really is a scary thing around, like when your friends sneak up on you when it is dark and they pretend to be a monster.
So fear is a normal thing when something really scares you, while anxiety is not normal and you get scared all the time, even if the scary thing is not around. For anxiety, you need to get help so that you don’t feel bad all the time, and so you don’t start to stay away from things that scare you.
