Many people who are taking SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) and SNRIs (serotonin norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors) have asked about how to switch to KalmPro. The reason is that they are experiencing so many side effects to SSRIs/SNRIs that they want to consider a natural alternative to help reduce their anxiety symptoms. SSRIs include sertraline (Zoloft), paroxetine (Paxil), fluoxetine (Prozac), citalopram (Celexa), and escitalopram (Lexapro). SNRIs include venlafaxine (Effexor), desvenlafaxine (Pristiq), and duloxetine (Cymbalta).
If you want to switch from SSRIs or SNRIs to KalmPro, then take the following steps:
- Continue with your SSRI or SNRI at the current dosage.
- Start KalmPro at 1 capsule per day for 1 week, then increase to 2 capsules per day.
- After 1 week of starting KalmPro, decrease your SSRI/SNRI dose by 1/4 of the total dose.
- After 2 weeks on the reduced dose of the SSRI/SNRI (3/4 of the original dose), then decrease the dose by 1/3.
- After 2 weeks on the reduced dose (1/2 of the original dose), then decrease the dose by 1/2.
- After 2 weeks on the reduced dose (1/4 of the original dose), then decrease the dose by 1/2.
- After 2 weeks on the reduced dose (1/8 of the original dose), then discontinue the SSRI/SNRI.
For the cross-taper of KalmPro with SSRIs/SNRIs, it takes at least 9 weeks to switch, with Zoloft being the most rapid (9 weeks) and Effexor being the slowest cross-taper (13 to 17 weeks)…the reason is that Zoloft is the easiest to taper, while Effexor is the most difficult to taper. If you get withdrawal symptoms, then you have to slow down the taper.
Disclaimer: consult with your doctor before starting this cross-taper. Your doctor should also be guiding it.
