There are numerous natural remedies for anxiety with research studies showing they are safe and effective. Natural remedies for anxiety include natural supplements (herbal and nutritional supplements) and foods that stabilize anxiety. Natural supplements for anxiety include kava, inositol, lavender, passion flower, L-lysine/L-arginine, valerian, L-theanine, Galphimia glauca, tryptophan, omega-3 fatty acids, GABA, Ginkgo biloba, chamomile, magnesium, lemon balm, melatonin, and skullcap. These natural supplements are generally associated with fewer side effects and are less expensive than prescription medications for anxiety. In addition, these supplements are natural, and do not require a prescription from the doctor.
So why would anyone consider a natural remedy for anxiety? It is probably for the same reason why someone would want a natural remedy for a headache, fever, sore throat, cold, or muscular tension- people want immediate relief with natural remedies. You don’t necessarily need to see the doctor for every bodily ache or pain- so why do you need to see the doctor for anxiety? Certainly, for severe anxiety, and for anxiety that does not respond to psychotherapy, then seeing the doctor for a possible prescription for anxiety medication is warranted. However, for the milder cases of anxiety, choosing a natural remedy for anxiety relief is becoming a viable option, given the research studies showing they are safe and effective. Do you go to the doctor every time you have a cold? Of course not- so why would you go to the doctor every time you had anxiety symptoms? Wouldn’t it be nice to have a natural remedy for anxiety and have it available when you have anxiety symptoms? Great article! I’m a huge fan of natural remedies for anxiety — that’s how I got rid of my anxiety and panic attacks, which actually were pretty severe. If you don’t manage to treat your anxiety yourself, then you should see the doctor, but definitely all kind of self help should be tried first. And you are the expert of your body and mind, so listening your reactions to different treatments pays off.
