The treatments for PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) are not as effective as the treatments for other anxiety disorders (such as social phobia, generalized anxiety disorder- GAD, phobias, panic disorder). Prescription medications are not as robust in PTSD as in other anxiety disorders. And psychotherapy is more difficult in a person with PTSD, versus in a person with another anxiety disorder.
There are specialized, evidenced-based treatments for PTSD, such as eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR), and trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). EMDR in PTSD involves the reduction of the intensity of disturbing thoughts by utilizing eye movements.
