Yes, you can use Xanax (alprazolam) for the fear of heights, or acrophobia. However, benzodiazepines like Xanax are only to be used as add-on treatment to other primary treatments, such as exposure therapy. Xanax can help to reduce the phobic anxiety that arises during the course of exposure therapy. Xanax should never be taken alone for the fear of heights. When it is prescribed as add-on treatment, it should only be used short term due to the numerous side effects, the most serious being the potention for abuse and dependence.
