Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) does not commonly cause panic attacks. Panic attacks are usually caused by being exposed to your feared object or situation (you have specific phobia), performing in front of an audience (you have performance anxiety or stage fright), going to a crowded place (you have social anxiety disorder), or experiencing spontaneous, uncued panic attacks (you have panic disorder).
GAD is characterized by excessive worry, and this does not generally lead to panic attacks. However, GAD and panic disorder can occur together, so you can have both anxiety disorders at the same time.
