In order to get over the fear of flying, you need to participate in what's called graduated exposure therapy, also known as systematic desensitization. Basically, you are given varying degrees of the feared stimulus, and with enough exposures and relaxation techniques, you are able to master that level of exposure, then you move onto the next more difficult exposure and repeat this process of exposure and relaxation. The key is to start with the least threatening feared stimulus, such as a picture of an airplane. Once you can master the picture and are able to calm yourself after repeated exposures, then you can go onto the next level of exposure, like maybe sitting in an actual plane. Eventually, you will be able to expose yourself to flying, but only after graduated exposures and being desensitized to the stimulus after multiple exposures.
