Do these antidepressants resolve the issue long term upon discontinuing?

+1 vote
or are they designed simply for short term use to get through difficulty in life? Secondly, how long is considered safe to take these medications before causing potential permanent damage to the brain? Can any damage be reversed? I'm quite alarmed at how these drugs are prescribed so easily especially when there are no initial tests to confirm a difficiency if at all there is one in the first place.

No, the antidepressants are only short-term solutions, whereby psychotherapy, coping skills, and social/familial supports are long term solutions for anxiety and depression. To answer your second question, antidepressants have been deemed to be safe in clinical trials. The answers to the rest of your questions are something not even the top neuroscientists can answer.
