The answer is no- addiction is not an obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). Although behaviors in addiction may resemble compulsions, they are not the same as the compulsions seen in OCD. Behaviors seen in addiction include pathological gambling, hypersexual behavior, and substance abuse. The behaviors in addiction are pleasurable, and the afflicted person may wish to stop only after serious negative consequences as a result of the addictive behaviors. This is in contrast to the compulsions in OCD, which are not pleasurable.
