Hi. It’s Jenny at AnxietyBoss.com. Our question today is from Helen in Columbus, Ohio. I am very scared to start an SSRI. Please help me. Should I start on it? I am just getting more anxiety thinking about taking it.
If you feel that there is no other way to rid yourself of your anxiety and it is extremely overwhelming to the point where you can no longer continue daily activities because of its interference, then SSRIs may be an appropriate option for you. However, it may be helpful to first see if there are any other natural remedies that may help before you commit to medication.
Try signing up for yoga classes and go a few times a week. Simply relaxing your mind and body for an hour or so a day works wonders. Meditating is also helpful in the same sense. Do you exercise often? A 20-minute walk or run outside each morning could assist in relieving some stress, and it’s great for your body.
When was the last time you took a bubble bath? Hot water has been proven to relieve muscle tension and calm the nerves. Maybe even visit a sauna if you can. What about vitamins? Next time you visit your local pharmacy pick up some Vitamin B and C capsules. B and C are known to be astronomical anxiety relievers and play pivotal roles in maintenance of the brain and nervous system.
Speaking of the body how is your diet? What you eat plays a huge role in how your mind functions. Bananas and oranges are especially helpful in reducing anxiety. Maybe with your fruit have a cup of chamomile tea, which has compounds that will be sure to calm your nerves.
