What are some medications for pain and anxiety?

+1 vote
I know medications differ from the u.s. to Canada , I have been on 25mg/daily of diazepam they max out at 40mg a day in canada ... I have tried everything and I still struggle. I have been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, generalized anxiety disorder and a.d.h.d. feels like a lot of labels! A lot of trial an error over the years. At age 25 I was diagnosed with avascular necrosis and scoliosis of the spine. I had a total hip replacement and am luckey to be alive and walking. Is there any medications available to us Canadians that would help anxiety and pain? Please help give me any ideas I essentially play doctor with myself and usually suggest what I think is appropriate. The pain is so difficult because it is very rare. There is something extremely wrong with my CNS and I am not a doctor! I continue to have great pain. The avs is primary and the secondary diagnosis is neropathic chronich pain syndrome. There is very little knowledgein regards to neuropathic chronic pain whereas there has only been a coalition since 2010 any advice or suggestions and medications in regard to the information given would be greatly appreciated i am so young and am sick of suffering I understand how complex and rare this is as well I have been dropped by a couple of doctors as well if anyone knows a specialist around _______ dealing with these types of health issues. That would also be helpful.I still have a surgeon at the ___ and phyciatrist but they are limited with what they can do to help. Thank you

In terms of treating anxiety and pain, there is a medication called gabapentin, brand name Neurontin, which can help to reduce pain and alleviate anxiety. A newer version of gabapentin is pregabalin (Lyrica), which is also effective for anxiety and pain. Other medications that can help anxiety and pain include serotonin norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs) such as duloxetine (Cymbalta) and tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs) such as amitriptyline (Elavil). These medications are available worldwide, including Canada. I'm sorry to hear that you are not getting the care you need in your region. You may need to get a referral to a large university hospital outside of your region. If your specialist doctor is not able to treat you, then you should ask your doctor to refer you on to someone with more expertise. We should expect more from our doctors, rather than letting them off the hook by letting them not do anything while you suffer.
