EMDR, or eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing, utilizes eye movements to reduce the intensity of the distressing thoughts in PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder). Research shows that EMDR is effective for PTSD (Bisson et al., 2013). With regards to curing PTSD, EMDR is not a cure, but it can alleviate some of the symptoms of PTSD. EMDR can be most effective for PTSD as part of a comprehensive treatment plan guided by a psychiatrist.
