Alprazolam, also known by its brand name Xanax, can help with stage fright. Stage fright is also known as performance anxiety, where you have an intense fear of performing in front of people due to the fear of embarrassment or social scrutiny. Performance anxiety is a type of social phobia (social anxiety disorder), in which performance anxiety occurs only in discreet performance situations, like giving a speech, playing music, or singing in front of people.
Benzodiazepines like alprazolam can help to decrease the anxiety associated with stage fright. You can take the benzodiazepine one hour before your performance to reduce the anxiety while you are performing. However, benzodiazepines are not the best medication for stage fright, given the side effect profile and the risk for dependence and abuse with the benzodiazepines. The best medication for stage fright are beta blockers, like propranolol.
