People with hypochondria have the sincere belief that they are physically sick, but nobody has been able to diagnose them. They do not create symptoms on purpose- they do not fake symptoms. They perceive any changes in their body as a sign that there must be something wrong with them, in the form of a serious medical illness. Their symptoms are real- so it is more about how they interpret those symptoms, and how they can hear medical professionals and their clinical opinions. People with hypochondria just need a different way of thinking about their symptoms, and a different way of behaving. They also need their family doctor to listen to them and to take them seriously.
