Yes, low blood sugar, also known as hypoglycemia, can trigger the release of adrenaline from the adrenal glands. Adrenaline is also known as epinephrine. When the body senses low blood sugar, then it signals the pancreas to release the hormone glucagon, which converts glycogen to glucose- thus, raising the blood glucose level. In addition, especially in people who have diabetes and the glucagon response to hypoglycemia is impaired, the hypoglycemia triggers the release of adrenaline into the bloodstream. The adrenaline in turn increases the blood glucose level.
