The core fear in social phobia (social anxiety disorder) is the fear of social scrutiny. If you have social phobia, you have the intense fear that people are making fun of you, that they are judging you, that they are criticizing you. Because of this fear of social scrutiny, you avoid social situations and places where there are crowds of people.
