Yes, hypochondriasis, (also known as hypochondria, illness anxiety disorder, and health anxiety), is a somatoform disorder, which is a mental illness that causes physical symptoms with no underlying medical illness. However, hypochondriasis can also be considered a type of anxiety disorder, as the thoughts about having a serious medical illness causes severe anxiety and worry, and this leads to checking, monitoring, researching, and educating behaviors, which serve to maintain your intolerance of uncertainty, and maintains the negative cycle of hypochondriasis, or health anxiety.
