Why is my PTSD coming back?

I have been symptom-free for years, but now I am having nightmares and flashbacks again, and I'm so jumpy.

I'm sorry to  hear that your PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) symptoms are re-emerging. Without a clinical assessment, I am not able to determine the reason why your symptoms are coming back. Possibilities could be that you have not dealt with the trauma adequately, and any reminders of the trauma or associated events may be triggering you now. And with some people who have PTSD, the illness can last a lifetime, with a lifetime of alternating between being symptom-free and being symptomatic (Carandang, 2014).

The good news is that you can treat PTSD, so that you can live without the burden of symptoms. The following video explains how PTSD develops, and how CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) can help:
